Ani Tashi Sangmo

Ani Tashi Sangmo is from Dingri, Tibet. Her mother is a farmer and her father has died. She has four siblings, including one who is a nun at Kopan nunnery. Receiving no schooling, she did farm work. She left Tibet at age 17 with the intention of becoming a nun. Ani Tashi Sangmo travelled with some yak traders who didn’t want to take girls, so she daringly dressed as a boy. After arriving in Kathmandu she traveled to Dharamsala and then returned. Her uncle, a former monk, brought her to Tek Chok Ling. She likes studying English, Tibetan and pujas. She is happy that she can now read and write Tibetan.
